In high-frequency transformer winding, is enamel wire replaceable by triple insulated wire?

YES, In the same specification, the outer diameter of a triple insulated wire is larger than that of an enameled wire. There is no problem with using triple insulated wire instead of enameled wire as long as the bobbin has enough reserve space. Wires that are triple insulated are frequently used in high-frequency transformers that are subject to safety regulations, as they can produce high current densities and a small creepage distance.

By comparing the high-frequency transformer wound with triple insulated wire to that wound with enameled wire, the volume will be reduced by half, and the weight will be reduced by two-thirds, which greatly reduces the cost of materials and manufacturing. Considering the high cost of triple insulated wire, we recommend using enameled wire for the primary winding and triple insulated wire for the secondary winding.

When winding a transformer, can copper wire replace enamelled wire?

NO!

As a winding wire, enameled wire is available in various grades, suitable for winding transformers, generators, motors, reactors and various electrical equipment such as relays, micromotors, small transformers, magnetic heads, precision instruments, coils for communication equipment and more. Copper wires are not insulated, so they cannot meet the mechanical, chemical, electrical, and thermal requirements of these fields.

Is enamel wire the same as copper wire?

The enameled wire and copper wire are both wires, but they are two distinct types of wire. This process is based on the enameling of copper wire, which is coated with a layer of insulator, usually plastic, on the outside. Wires made of copper are generally used in daily life and exhibit excellent electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity. A wire enameled with enamel is primarily used as a winding wire for transformers. The enameled wire is composed of a conductor and an insulating layer. After the bare wire is annealed and softened, it is painted and baked multiple times.
