How to judge the quality of high-frequency transformer?

How do you judge if the quality of a high frequency transformer is good or not when you buy one?You can easily get it by following the following 3 steps:

1.Testing of high frequency transformers using a single energizing procedure

An AC 220V power supply should be used to power a high-frequency transformer. If the primary series 5A fuse is burned when the power is connected, it indicates that the transformer has a short circuit between turns of the winding, which requires new accessories. If the 5A fuse is safe, you can use a multimeter to check if the output voltage value of the secondary filament winding and the output voltage value of the high-voltage winding in the fuse meets the product specifications (you will need a pointer meter to measure 2500V AC).

2.Keep a record of the results of the test

It is normal for there to be a +0.6V error between the measured filament voltage and the specified value, and a +25V error in the high-voltage voltage, but the pointer on the dial is quite stable, so it is evident that the voltage regulation characteristics of the high-frequency transformer with “magnetic leakage” are very good. In an ordinary transformer, the primary voltage fluctuates, and the secondary voltage must also fluctuate. Further, it can measure the no-load current and record vibration and heat generation of the high-frequency transformer.

When energized, the high-frequency transformer will produce a strong 50Hz vibration and “hum” sound;
When you touch the iron core after 10 minutes of no-load power-on, you will see that the temperature of the lower part rises (because it is near the primary winding), while the upper part only rises slightly; A primary connected to an ammeter results in a high secondary output voltage, while a primary not connected to an ammeter results in a low secondary output voltage. It is necessary to record these phenomena.

3.Analysis test records

If the winding turns and voltage error of the high-frequency transformer are normal, it can be determined whether the transformer’s quality is good. It is good; if not, it’s not good; if it’s good, then the transformer is good. Rather, it is a low-quality high-frequency transformer.
