Development Of Dry-type Transformers

The State Council released “Made in China 2025” in 2015, proposing to promote the development of new energy and renewable energy equipment, advanced energy storage devices, smart grids, and user-end equipment.Implement a number of innovation and industrialization special projects, including smart grid complete equipment sets. 2The “14th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development of the People’s Republic of China and the Outline of Vision 2035” will be released in 2021. It proposes to build a modern energy system, improve power system complementarity and enable intelligent adjustment.

Dry-type transformers are being developed in an intelligent direction by State Grid Co., Ltd. and China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd. in recent years Combining electronic, communication, computer and network technology with power equipment, monitoring, protecting, controlling, metering, and managing the power grid under normal and accident conditions, data transmission, remote monitoring, equipment predictive maintenance, etc.

It may be possible in the future to develop dry-type transformers in the following ways:

  • Saving energy and reducing noise: Future dry-type Transformers will be more energy efficient and quieter thanks to the introduction and development of new materials, processes, and technologies such as low-loss silicon steel sheets, step-by-step iron core joints, foil-type winding structures, and environmental protection requirements. It is not advisable to reduce iron or copper loss simply by adding materials.
  • Reliability is high: Transformers are particularly important when it comes to operational reliability. Conduct a lot of basic research on electromagnetic field theory and its calculation, wave process, casting process, hot spot temperature rise, partial discharge mechanism, quality assurance system, reliability engineering, etc., and actively pursue reliability certification to further improve the reliability of dry-type transformers.
  • Environmental Characteristics: Conduct research and certification of dry-type transformers based on the European standard HD464, including weather resistance (C0, C1, C2), environment resistance (E0, E1, E2), and fire resistance (F0, F1, F2).
  • Capacity is high: Transformer capacity for distribution is usually less than 2,500KVA. Regional substations of the urban network are getting deeper and deeper into the load centers, such as urban centers, residential quarters, large and medium-size factories and mines, and 35KV dry-type regional power supply transformers will be widely used in these areas.
  • Combination and intelligence:Transformers with substation functions to multi-functional combined transformers with forced air cooling, protective casing, power metering, computer interfaces, closed busses, low-voltage side outlets; With the introduction of TTU intelligent interface, the transformer becomes a multi functional and intelligent electrical equipment that is always in the best operating state possible.
  • Multiple fields of development: A wide range of transformers are available, such as distribution transformers, special transformers, and multi-purpose transformers such as power plant excitation transformers, factory transformers, rail transit traction rectifier transformers, high-current electric furnace transformers, nuclear power plants, and marine applications.
  • Multi-material, multi-varieties: Epoxy resin cast transformers produced about 1000 MVA in the 1980s, and over 10000 MVA in the 1990s; Dry-type transformers fall into four insulation classes: class B, class F, class H, and class C.
