Why High Frequency Transformers Make of Ferrite Cores

Why Ferrite Core is use for a high frequency transformer?

In high frequency transformers the material used for core is ferrite cores because it has high resistivity, low high-frequency loss, easy mass production, good product consistency and low cost.

What are ferrite cores made of?

Ferrite materials are mainly divided into two categories: Mn-Zn ferrite and Ni-Zn ferrite. Ni-Zn ferrite is used for high-frequency transformers whose working frequency is above 1MHz, whereas Mn-Zn ferrite is used for transformers whose working frequency is below 0.5-1MHz.

The types of ferrite core for Frequency Transformerss

The ferrite core is formed by pressing and sintering and there are many types, mainly E shaped, U shaped, Toroidal shaped and pot shaped.

How does a ferrite core work?

Ferrite beads are passive electronic components that can suppress high frequency signals on a power supply line. These beads work according to Faraday’s Law: the magnetic core around a conductor induces a back EMF in the presence of a high frequency signal, essentially attenuating the ferrite frequency response.

Advantages of ferrite core

The biggest advantage of ferrite core is high permeability, good temperature characteristics, and low attenuation rate. Ferrites with a high permeability exhibit greater impedance at low frequencies and smaller impedance at high frequencies.
